Our first day in country

Some place in Cambodia

The smells, sights and sounds are Penhomenal. (Sorry, Tony's pun).

We took taxis from the airport to the Narin 2 guesthouse, which we would thoroughly recommend. For a very reasonable price, we have excellent accomodation, with no additional wildlife (excluding Dominic, who we can't seem to get rid of, no matter how much insecticide we use).

Josh, having left his day sack containing several valuable items on the taxi, had to go with Tony to try and hunt it down in a Tok Tok (a local method of transportation which defies belief). Alas, there has been no success so far. But we live in hope.

After settling in to our home for the next two days, we set off to explore our surroundings. Although most of the city was borderline decrepid, there were many gems, such as the Royal Palace (shown in the picture). There was a particularly nice stretch of the city along the river front.

Image of the day was a toss-up between a stranger pouring water over Matt's head in the Kuala Lumpur airport lavatories after an explosive nose-bleed, and seeing two people plus a double matress on a moped. Speaking of which, the roads in the city are largely dominated by mopeds, with very few cars and even fewer traffic lights. Which made crossing the road a bit of a lottery.

Tomorrow, we are continuing our ventures at the killing fields, and are also having a briefing at the British embassy. We hope to report back at the end of the day.
